Here at cleaning services Falls Church, we hope all our readers and regular customers enjoyed Thanksgiving. But what might be a bit of an issue now is the cleaning up.
Yes, Thanksgiving often comes with a hefty side order of mess. Never fear. The experts at cleaning services Falls Church can help. We’ve got some tricks and tips for even the trickiest of cleaning jobs…
Burnt on food
Sweet potatoes and marshmallows are a Thanksgiving favorite, but boy are they messy! The sugar in the candy and the potatoes will weld itself onto a casserole dish and stick there fast. You can use two different methods to remove it. Fill the dish with cold water and a couple of tablespoons of either washing powder or liquid and heat slowly on the hob. This will lift the mess off.
Otherwise, you can use the same slow heating method but use vinegar instead (one part vinegar to four parts water). Another idea is to place the dish in the freezer for three hours, and this makes the burnt payers much easier to remove too.
Red wine stains
Maybe one of your guests got a bit too enthusiastic with the toasts? Red wine stains on linen and carpets can be a pest, but it’s a salvageable situation. Even if you don’t do it immediately, there are tricks to remove old stains.
You’ll need a non-bleach dish detergent, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, a towel, cloth or paper towels, cream of tartar and water. Working from the outside of the stain, blot with one part detergent and two parts hydrogen peroxide. If this doesn’t work, you can make a paste from the cream of tartar and water. Allow it to set for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water and blot with a clean, dampened towel. Always remember to blot, rather than scrub, as scrubbing will spread the stain further.
Removing food smells
It’s lovely to walk into a house that smells of Thanksgiving food – roasting turkey, home-made gravy, vegetables and pumpkin pie all smell delicious. Three days later, not so much. And if you burned anything, it’ll be even worse. Open the windows for a few hours, and clean the surface areas as food smells linger on carpets and even walls. Put a pan of water with half a lemon it in to boil for 20 minutes, as this will work too.
