Thanksgiving might look a little different this year as many of you will still be restricting the numbers you have to protect against coronavirus.
Nevertheless, it’s one of the biggest celebrations we have here in the US, so we thought we’d share our cleaning tips to make the event as stress-free as possible…
Sanitizer at the ready
Greet your guests with hand sanitizer. Yes, in these new pandemic times a safe and healthy celebratory day begins with a squirt of hand sanitizer.
Before the meal, ensure all your family members have a job on the day. One person puts out the food, another dishes and yet another clears them away after courses.
Double bag the garbage can so when you empty it, there’s a bag in there already. Remember to be smart with your trash as much as you can—food waste for composting, plastic, paper, glass bottles and wrapping for the recycling collections.
Get ready for the leftovers
Empty your dishwasher so it is ready for all those dirty dishes, glasses and pots and pans, and clean out the fridge. If you live by our motto, never knowingly under-catered, there will be tonnes of leftovers. Another good idea is to have plastic boxes and bags on hand so everything can be stored quickly and efficiently, and not take up too much room in the fridge.
One the meal is done and dusted, it’s tempting to leave the mess until the following day. But a few advance tips will make the job much easier in the morning.
You don’t need to put the dishwasher on right away, but if dishes are scraped when they are cleared from the table, they can be loaded into the dishwasher more easily in the morning.
Deal with spills and stains
If there are any spillages and stains, do tackle them straightaway. The golden rule with stains is that the shorter they lie, the easier they are to clean. Click here for some tips on how to clean common stains, such as red wine, grease, etc.
Wipe down the table and counter tops if possible—especially if you have naughty cats and dogs who might wander over them and lick up any tasty spillages they find…
