As March edges ever closer, it’s time to dust off the rubber gloves – spring cleaning time once more!

This year, why not plan a proper spring-cleaning campaign? Here are the things to consider before you start…

Make this the month you tackle the to-do cleaning list

We all have a job we keep putting off, such as emptying the loft/basement. Clearing it out will make you feel much better, so why not get around to this job finally?

Prepare your supplies beforehand

There’s nothing more frustrating than mustering up the energy to clean the drains and discovering you don’t have the product to do so. Make a list of everything you will need – from furniture polish, to buckets, microfiber cloths, de-greasers, rubbing alcohol and even some distilled vinegar (hundreds of uses, literally) and stock up.

Consider the environment

Buy environmentally friendly cleaning products where you can. Again, vinegar tackles a lot of household cleaning jobs effectively, as does mayonnaise, funnily enough.

Remember the top to bottom rule

When cleaning, the laws of gravity dictate that dirt, dust, etc., falls down, so the logical cleaning sequence is to polish, clean surfaces, dust ceilings, wash windows and others before you vacuum the carpets, wash or polish the floors. After all, you don’t want to end up cleaning something twice.

Check with the second-hand shops

Thanks to the pandemic and people staying at home, there’s been a lot of decluttering going on. If you plan to clear out wardrobes, book shelves, the loft, etc., check first that your local vintage/second-hand store/charity shop is willing to/open for accepting items.

Use the newspaper/vinegar trick for cleaning windows

Old newspaper and vinegar is an excellent and effective way to clean windows that will leave them smear free. Check out the method here.

Get those carpets professionally cleaned

Dry carpet cleaning is minimally invasive and super effective. If you have pets, a deep clean like this will get rid of all that excess hair and dander and put the bounce back into your carpets. You can find out more about Budget Maids’ professional carpet cleaning services here.

Hire the professionals
