Plastic Not so Fantastic

House Cleaning Vienna shares our tips for helping you minimize your plastic use.

House Cleaning Vienna has the following tips to minimize your plastic use:

Say no to plastic bottles

Carry a re-usable bottle for your water and, if possible, cut down your consumption of soda that comes in plastic bottles. Your teeth will thank you for that too!

Ditch the plastic straws

Straws do damage to the oceans. Many places now ask if you want a straw, but there are bars and restaurants that include them automatically, with cocktails, for example. So say you don’t want one when you order a drink.

Buy a reusable coffee cup

Some coffee chains now fill your reusable cups. Disposable coffee cups are difficult to recycle and billions of them get thrown away every year. Alternatively, invest in a good quality coffee grinder and save yourself hundreds of pounds a year drinking your own.

Keep the plastic off your face

Those little beads in exfoliant products such as facial and body scrubs are often made of plastic and they end up in the food chain because they get rinsed down the plughole. Buy a product that uses natural ingredients or make your own scrubs. Coffee grounds, salt and sugar mixed with coconut oil can work as a body scrub.

House Cleaning Vienna chooses cardboard over plastic

It’s easier to recycle cardboard so choose food and products that is packaged in cardboard where possible.

Don’t use plastic cutlery

Do House Cleaning Vienna does and carry your own knife, fork and spoon around with you. Take a set to work too so you never have to use the plastic versions.

Avoid disposable razors

Buy one that lets you replace the blade. You might even consider a straight razor.

Watch out for excessive food packaging

Buy fruit and veg loose. Some shops let your refill your own containers with dry goods such as flour, cereals and nuts.

Bring your own doggie bag

Take your own containers to restaurants and diners so you can pack up what you don’t eat, avoiding food waste too.
