Your cleaning service Olney friends have provided plenty of cleaning tips and advice over the years, but we think it’s a subject that never gets tired. We all want those tips and tricks that make life easier, don’t we?

So, here are some more of our favourite cleaning hacks to help you make short work of those pesky cleaning jobs…

Minimize sheet ironing

Okay, there is an argument for not bothering to iron sheets, but they look much nicer and the smell better too—like, really deep-down clean. To make the job easy though, take the sheets down from the washing line or out from the dryer before they’re fully dry. Fold them into a small size and run the iron across the top layer. Fresh, clean smooth sheets!

Set up a rag drawer in your kitchen

Don’t buy special cloths or sponges for cleaning when rags will do the job just as well. Allocate them a drawer in your kitchen and stock with old clothes and curtains you have cut into strips. Easy-peasy and much better for the environment too!

Change a duvet cover in no time

a picture of a white duvet against a black backgroundYes, we know! Everyone hates this job, but the easiest way to do it is turn the cover inside out and hold the two corners in each hand. Now, take each corner of the duvet in your two hands and shake the cover down. Fasten or button the covering and give the duvet a good shake. Job done.

Banish spilled candle wax

If you’ve had a little accident with that nice scented candle, then the easiest way to remove it from wooden floors or furniture is to hold a bag of ice cubes against the spill for a few minutes. This will harden the wax and make it easier to scrape away. Always do the last bit with care.

Dry windows horizontally and vertically

Ooh, wanna know the best way to avoid smears? Easy—when you’ve finished washing your windows, dry one side of the window using horizontal strokes and the other vertically. That way if streaks get left behind you’ll be able to see which side of the window needs a little more work.

Steam off stuck-on food

Pots and pans covered with food mess? Holding them above a pan of boiling water on your stove for a few seconds will help loosen the food. Be careful with this one, folks. That steam can burn.
