If you used Blu Tack to stick your Christmas cards on the walls, inevitably some of it will have ended up on the carpet. And Blu Tack is nasty stuff to remove…

Never fear – Maid Service Potomac is here. We have some foolproof tips for how to remove Blu Tack from your carpet.

Be careful

Blu Tack gets stickier over time, so remove it slowly and with care.

Use heat

An easy way to take blu tack off a carpet is to heat the trodden in stuff with a hair dryer on a hot setting for one minute or so. You should keep the hair dryer six inches from the carpet to stop it melting the fibres, and then use a plastic or sandwich bag to pick off the Blu Tack. Keep reheating the area until all the Blu Tack has gone.

Detergent method

Another idea is to mae a solution using washing-up detergent (a teaspoon) and one cup of warm water. Dip in a white towel (whiteso you can see the Blu Tack clearly) and blot your carpet gently until there is no Blu Tack left.

Use vinegar

Vinegar has multiple cleaning uses as we at Maid Service Potomac know only too well, and removing Blu Tack stains is another one of those uses. Take distilled white vinegar and heat it in the microwave. Pour the warm vinegar over the stain and leave it for a few minutes. Scrape off the Blu Tack with a plastic knife. Dry the surface using a clean cloth and then vacuum.

Use more Blu Tack

Take a damp cloth and apply it to the stained area, then dry the bit of carpet where the Blu Tack is. Break off a fresh chunk of Blu Tack and gently rub it across the trodden-in bit until the two pieces start to bond. What should happen is that the bit in the carpet will stick to the fresh chunk and lift out easily.

Use vegetable oil

Groudnut or sunflower seed oil can be used to remove Blu Tack. Dip a cotton bud in the oil and rub it gently over the stain. A plastic knife or spatula can then be used to get rid of the residue. Clean the area with a solution of washing up liquid to remove the oil.
