If you’re anything like we peeps here at House Cleaning Oakton, you’re mighty fans of the mayo. Yup, we can’t get enough of that silky creaminess, whether it’s mixed with veggies to make a great salad or as a dip for chips, a naughty but nice treat we try not to indulge in too often.
But the trusty mayonnaise jar has more uses that you might think. It’s a brilliant cleaning solution.
Whaattttt… you ask. Mind just blown. Bear with us here at House Cleaning Oakton and let us explain what else you can use your mayo for.
· Thanks to its large oil content, mayonnaise works well as a polish. Do you have fake house plants dotted about your home? They can be a bit of a dust magnet. But spritz them with a little water and dab the leaves with a tiny bit of mayo. Use a soft cloth to rub them and voila! Shiny leaves once more.
· What about the stainless steel in your kitchen? Is it looking grubby, marked with fingerprints and smudges? You guessed it… open that jar, scoop out a tiny bit and use a cloth to bring that steel to a flawless shine.
· Creak! Groan! Is there anything more annoying than a squeaky hinge? Here too mayonnaise works wonders. Dab that little bit on a cloth, rub the hinge and then swing the door open and closed. What’s that sound—yes, it’s the super sound of silence.
· Glass jars and plastic boxes. If you have stickers and labels on these, you’ll know what a pain it is to remove them when you want to reuse the container. Peel off as much as you can of the sticker and cover the area with a layer of mayonnaise and let it sit for a few minutes. The oil in the mayo will dissolve the adhesive. (Another great way to get rid of sticker residue is to use rubbing alcohol.)
And finally, here’s a personal cleaning one we House Cleaning Oakton peeps love. Mayonnaise makes a fantastic and inexpensive hair conditioner or mask. Apply a generous amount to your hair and comb through to the ends. Allow it to sit on your hair for thirty minutes and then wash and condition as usual. Results? Super-soft, silky hair for a fraction of the price you’d pay for a professional conditioning treatment.
