Are you captivated by the Winter Olympics, as we are here at House Cleaning Oakton?
Unfortunately, the Games have been hit by the dreaded Norovirus, with security guards struck down by the illness. Dozens have been taken to hospital and 1,200 guards have been withdrawn from the sites. They’ve been replaced by military personnel.
Norovirus causes vomiting and diarrhea and it sometimes gets called the winter vomiting bug because it’s more common in winter. Athletes will want to avoid it as they will want to put in their best performance.
But we normal folks don’t want Norovirus either! And if you’re an older or younger person, or you have an underlying chronic condition, then Norovirus is terrible news.
What can we do to minimize the risk of catching the Norovirus?
House Cleaning Oakton says:
Wash your hands carefully. It’s something we tell our kids, but it’s easy to forget. Your hands should be washed after going to the toilet, before eating and if you’ve come in from outside, and before preparing food.
Heard of the Happy Birthday rule? Most people are cursory when it comes to cleansing, but you hand wash should take as long as it takes you to sing the Happy Birthday song. Wash between the fingers and dry properly. Whether you choose to sing out loud or not is up to you…
Clean your bathroom and kitchen well. Surfaces should be properly wiped and disinfected, and special attention paid to things that people touch, such as door handles, the toilet flush, sinks and faucets.
If someone in your household catches the norovirus, you can help prevent its spread by:
· Not sharing towels and flannels
· Wash clothing and bedding more frequently than usual, and don’t share a bed with anyone who has it
· Keep the bathroom and toilet as clean as possible
· The person with norovirus should not go to school or work for at least 48 hours to avoid passing the infection on. Be kind to your fellow humans and stay away from them!
Good luck avoiding this nasty bug!
