No matter how hard you scrub, clean, scour and wash, sometimes you just can’t get those annoying rust stains off your washbasin or sink. And they look even worse on white sinks. But before you give up the ghost, why not give our Budget Maids trust cleaning tips a try?

What’s going on underneath the basin?

Your basin, toilet or tub may very well be white, but underneath the porcelain there may well be old, rusty water pipes and metal components which are in constant contact with water containing rust or other minerals. This is what is causing the tough to remove stains. if regular stains are affecting your bathroom, kitchen or washing room then it may very well be a good idea to get to the source of the problem and replace the old rusty pipes in the first place.

Pumice scrubbing

If you’ve tried every cleaning agent, bleach and stain removal around and still your stubborn stains remain then what about some pumice stone scrubbing? These nifty little stain removers are especially successful on porcelain tubs and toilets. Look closely at the various pumice scrubbers available on the market – the ones which create a paste as you scrub are particularly good. Simply rinse with warm water afterwards.

For stubborn stains

With stubborn stains you may need some extra help. Use a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide and fill your tub, basin or toilet bowl with it for around two hours. You should begin to see the stains start to lighten. When this happens, scrub them with warm water and rinse in disinfectant.

Prevention is better than cure

Keeping stains under control is easier than having to cope with them once they’re visible. To do this clean washbasins or toilets with a special stain-resistant paste every now and again. Make it from baking soda and warm water then scrub the basin or tub. Repeat this every six weeks – or more for particularly aggressive stains.
