Cleaning: remember your home’s exterior

by Budget Maids - August 12, 2014

We all appreciate the joys of coming home to a clean home – and that means your home’s exterior as well as its interior. Here’s some basics you can carry out on a warm day when you’ve not much else to do:

Managing mould

There’s nothing that can make your home look more rundown than a mould-covered roof. But it’s not that difficult to get rid of, really. You can get rid of it with a power washer (get a handyman if you can’t face going up on the roof yourself). Thankfully you’re only looking at needing to do this every three to five years.

Getting the gutters clean

Gutters require more regular attention than roofs – especially after autumn or a rainy season. That’s because they get clogged with leaves, debris and other organic matter. It causes the dirty rainwater inside them to fall onto your walls, windows and paving. Again, if height is a problem when it comes to cleaning them then get in professional help. It’s definitely worth paying for clean gutters.

Fight the infestations

Certain building surfaces lend themselves more to attracting insects and spiders than others. But most homes will show signs of resident insects and spiders – especially those with a garden.

This needn’t prevent your home’s exterior looking smart though. The way to get rid of insects is to wash your wall down with a hosepipe every now and then. At the same time keep an eye out for more serious infestations. If you do find an infestation then contact a pest control service company right away. A good place to inspect for signs of infestation is foundation walls – a termite’s ideal spot.

If you want to take a month or even a season to intensively clean and rejuvenate your home’s exterior, why not call Budget Maids to look after the interior during this time?
