Cleaning Up After Pets – house cleaning Potomac

house cleaning Potomac

They’re cute – but messy too!

If you have pets, you might worry that a cleaning company such as house cleaning Potomac can cope.

Never fear! We have years of experience of cleaning homes, and we know people’s beloved pets are family members. We use environmentally-friendly cleaning products and methods to ensure your precious pooch or marvellous moggie is unharmed by anything we do. We’re used to cleaning up after pets too, so if your animal is home when we visit – that’s no problem either.

We have some advice to help you if you want to keep your home clean when you have pets:

  1. Groom your dog or cat regularly. This will minimise the shedding they do – so less dog or cat hair to vacuum up. It’s also an excellent way to bond with your pet, and it lets you keep an eye on any potential flea situations…
  2. If your animal does get fleas, remember you will need to treat the house as well as your pet. Wash any bedding he or she uses, as well as any cushions the animal uses. You might want to consider professional carpet cleaning such as the service we at house cleaning Potomac offer, as this is great for getting rid of critters.
  3. Carpet cleaning is also useful if your pet has had an accident… Bear in mind with cats that if they wee somewhere inside, they are likely to return to the same place as they’ll be able to smell the urine even when you can’t. A specialist cleaning product will be necessary to eliminate the odor completely.
  4. Keep a supply of sticky tape or special pet sponges in the home as this will help remove excess quantities of pet hair.
  5. If your pet has stomach trouble, this can be tricky to clear up because vomit is so acidic. If possible, clean it up as soon as you can. Use kitchen towels to pick up as much as you can, then treat the area with a professional carpet detergent. Rinse the area thoroughly with clean, hot water. Hopefully, this will bring the carpet back to a neutral pH.

Bear in mind that it can take up to two years to eradicate a home of pet hair… If you are moving on and selling your home, you might want to consider specialists services such as house cleaning Potomac to leave the place spick and span.

Outdoor Furniture Cleaning Tips

maid service RockvilleOutdoor furniture needs cleaning too – as our maid service Rockville will tell you.

But is there an easy way to do this? After all, you don’t want to add yet more things to your to do list. (Although, of course, our maid service Rockville could also do it for you!) Here are our tips for making outdoor furniture cleaning as easy as possible…

For white plastic, you need a gallon of warm water and 3tbsp of dishwashing powder, as this contains chemicals that will whiten the plastic. Use a sponge or soft brush to apply and leave the solution on the furniture for fifteen minutes. Rinse and dry. Use this on white plastic ONLY.

For coloured plastic, use an all-purpose cleaner and water, and rinse well.

Aluminium that has a baked-on enamel finish is easy to scratch, so use a sponge soaked in detergent and water or a non-abrasive specialist cleaner. Scrub, rinse and dry.

If you want to keep the shine on plastics, resins and metal furniture, wax it. remove the cushions first, as wax can stain. Apply with a soft cloth, allow to dry and buff well.

For outdoor cushions, mix a teaspoon of dishwasher detergent with one quart warm water and one tablespoon of Borax. Soak a sponge in the mix and wash the cushions. Or you can put the mixture in a spray bottle and saturate the back and front of the cushions. Let the soaked cushions sit for fifteen minutes and then spray with plenty of water. Stand them on their side to try. Once dry, spray with a fabric protector. You can also vacuum the cushions between washes to keep the dust off.

If you have canvas seats, most of the time the canvas is removeable, so you can take it off and place it in the washing machine. It is easier to put the canvas back on while it is damp, as this will help it keep its shape.

If you can’t take it off, use a scrubbing brush and laundry soap. Load the brush with the soap and scrub the canvas. Rinse well. This should get rid of all stains and dirt.

If you clean your outdoor furniture regularly, it will last much longer – giving you plenty of years of sitting outside to enjoy the sunshine.

House Cleaning Potomac – Window Cleaning Tips

House Cleaning Potomac

Hopefully, your house doesn’t have windows like these…

Cleaning windows – here at House Cleaning Potomac, we know this job can be a pain in the a**!

But there are ways to make the job easier. Read on to find out how the cleaning pros tackle windows with a will!

First off, you will need a bucket of cleaning solution, a scrubber or sponge and a squeegee. You might need a ladder too for windows on the second floor.

Outside windows often get stubborn marks or stains such as bird droppings and concentrated dirt and grime. Clean these first. One way of dealing them is to spray the area with pure vinegar. Leave it to sit for five minutes. Use a cloth of sponge to rub it off and then continue to clean the entire window.

Crusty stains or deposits can be removed with a razor.

The outside of the window gets much dirtier than the inside. Tackle this by spraying the windows with the garden hose before cleaning. This will help get rid of the worst of it.

House Cleaning Potomac – Home-made Window Cleaner

To make your own window cleaner, you can use equal parts of water and distilled white vinegar. This will help prevent streaks. You can also use dishwashing liquid but use this sparingly, as most modern formulations are highly concentrated. All you need is one teaspoon per two gallons of water.

A sponge is the best way to apply cleaning solution. Dip it into the mix, squeeze it out and apply over the whole window. If you are cleaning from the inside, put down towels or sheets to absorb water spills.

Use the squeegee to wipe the windows dry. For small-paned windows, move horizontally from side to side. Larger windows can be done top to bottom. A sharp blade on the squeegee prevents streaks. Replace yours when the blade gets dull.

Wipe the window with a lint-free cloth. Use a different cloth to dry the window frame thoroughly.

Don’t forget your blinds. These should be cleaned regularly too, as they pick up grime and ust easily.

Here at Budget Maids we provide House Cleaning Potomac, a maid service in Vienna or cleaning services in Falls Church and surrounds, cleaning services in Olney and Oakton and more. Why not give us a call today and let us help you ensure your windows are sparkling clean all the time?

Budget Maids Time-Saving Cleaning

Budget MaidsWhy book regular cleaning services through companies such as Budget Maids?

Well, the main thing is you get your life back! The average American working week is about 49 hours. Who wants to come home and spend the time cleaning?

We know you don’t need much help thinking up ideas of what to do with the extra time you get from not cleaning, but just in case you do, here are some ideas…

Sleep! Seven to eight hours of sleep is ideal. You’ll wake up (in your gorgeously clean bedroom, thanks to Budget Maids) feeling refreshed and energetic.

Barbecue. The summer’s here, so of course, you want to invite friends and family for a barbecue. Continuing on the outsourcing theme, tell them it’s a potluck barbecue. They can bring the sides, the salads and the ice-cream and you’ll do the cooking. (Budget Maids can clean it up for you afterwards.)

Take up a new hobby. We bet there’s some hobby or craft you’ve wanted to take up for a while, but what with work and cleaning, you haven’t found the time. Now, thanks to Budget Maids, you have it in abundance.

Spend quality time with friends. This is something else that tends to fall by the wayside when we’re working hard. Go bowling, arrange a group picnic. Better still, invite friends around to your newly-tidy home, eat cakes and drink wine.

Do some outdoor stuff. What’s your fancy? Hiking? Running? Quad biking? Whatever it is, treat yourself to plenty of fresh air, safe in the knowledge that you will be returning to a super-clean home.

Take your dog an extra long walk. Heat permitting, your dog will love a long walk with you now that you have time to spare. Regular walks contribute to the health of both of you.

Cook a special meal. Weekdays, we tend to grab and go when it comes to food. Now that you don’t need to spend your weekends cleaning, why not pick a recipe that takes a little longer. Pulled pork done in the crock pot is super easy. Serve with brioche buns, homemade slaw and crackling on the side.

We know our customers work really hard, and the thought of additional work when they return home isn’t welcome at all which is why we at Budget Maids provide fantastic cleaning services at cost-effective prices. Contact us today at info@budgetmaids.com to find out more.

Cleaning Services Arlington – Barbecue Safety

cleaning services ArlingtonHey, it’s barbecue season and cleaning services Arlington is sure you’re getting ready for some fun summer parties.

If you are planning a barbecue, it’s important to keep hygiene and food safety rules in mind. You don’t want people to remember your party for all the wrong reasons the next day when they’re confined to the bathroom.

Here are our cleaning tips for your barbecue safety…

Cook on a clean barbecue. Want to know how to clean your barbecue? Check out our cleaning services Arlington post here. As well as promoting hygiene, a clean barbecue works better, and you’ll enjoy evenly-cooked food fast.

Keep raw and cooked meats apart. Raw meat should be stored in the fridge until you cook it. Allow ten minutes out of the fridge for the food to come to room temperature. Use different plates, tools and chopping boards for raw and cooked meat. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat, using warm water and soap.

Charred doesn’t mean cooked. Sausages and burgers can be burnt on the outside, but still raw inside. Turn the meat regularly to stop it burning, and cut it open to check.

Don’t Wash

Do NOT wash raw chicken or other raw meat. This spreads germs. Cooking for the appropriate time will kill the bacteria present in raw meat while washing it spreads germs and bacteria such as campylobacter.

Wash salad leaves. Give them a clean with cold water and dry in a salad spinner. Add mayo-based dressings at the last minute so that your salad doesn’t sit around in the heat with a raw egg based dressing.

Keep anti-bacteria wipes handy. Most of us will be eating barbecue foods with our hands. That’s part of the pleasure, right? If you’ve got kids present, their little hands might not be as clean as they should be. Keep wipes handy, so everyone can get stuck into their food, germ-free.

Barbecue safety also means avoiding burns and fires.

  • Make sure your barbecue is stable, secure and sturdy.
  • Check it is in good condition before you start.
  • Locate it away from fences, sheds and overhanging trees.
  • Don’t light in an enclosed space.
  • Never pour petrol or fire-lighting accelerant onto your barbecue.
  • Don’t leave children unsupervised near a barbecue, and check your equipment is fully extinguished before you leave it alone.

Here at Budget Maids, we provide cleaning services Arlington, a maid service in Vienna or cleaning services in Falls Church and surrounds, cleaning services in Olney and Oakton and more. Why not give us a call today and let us help you get your home ready for a great summer barbecue party?

Cleaning Service Reston: Big Bathroom Ewws…

cleaning service Reston

What germs lurk here?!

You know what we at cleaning service Reston mean by ewws… these are the bathroom no-no’s everyone is guilty of from time to time.

Our business is cleaning, and there is not much we don’t know about how to make a place spick and span. But some jobs and items in our homes can be overlooked. We’re all busy people and remembering when and what we have cleaned isn’t always easy.

There are some of the top bathroom issues that can be neglected…

The Bathmat

What do you do with your bathmat? You step on it when it’s wet, as do the other people in the household. Do you think it gets dried in between? Bathmats can quickly build up mold and mildew because of this, so they need to be washed regularly – at least once a fortnight. Make sure the mat is dried properly afterwards too. It’s helpful if you can hang up your mat to dry off thoroughly in between uses.

Cleaning Service Reston – the Dreaded Toilet Brush

The Toilet Brush

Ah, the toilet brush – a hardworking implement in most bathrooms. As you might guess, toilet brushes store lots of eww-type things: bacteria, dirt and fecal matter. Most people tend to use them and then put them straight back in the holder. If possible, after every use place the brush in a bucket filled with hot water and a strong cleaning solution such as bleach. Leave to soak for an hour or so and then remove and rinse well. Remember to clean the brush holder at the same time, as we cleaning service Reston experts always do. There is no point shoving it back in a dirty container.

The Toilet Flush

No doubt you clean your toilet well, but the flush handle is often neglected. And how is the flusher used? Well, everyone touches this with their unwashed hands after going to the toilet, don’t they? It’s easy to see why it needs to be cleaned regularly. Use antibacterial wipes to clean thoroughly every time you give the toilet bowl a rinse.

The Hairbrush

It’s not only hairs that stick to a hairbrush – it’s dust, dirt, oils, hair products, skin cells and dust mites. You should pull excess hair out of your brush every time you use it and shampoo your brush at least once a month. Wash it in warm water with a small amount of shampoo in it and use a clean toothbrush to scrub at the bottom of the bristles to get rid of trapped hair and dirt. Dry bristle-side down on a clean towel overnight.

Here at Budget Maids, we provide a cleaning service in Reston, a maid service in Olney or cleaning services in Columbia and surrounds, and more. Why not give us a call today and let us help you ensure you could eat your dinner off your bathroom floor?!

Maid Service Reston: Cleaning Hacks

Maid Service Reston

Lemon juice: the cleaner’s friend.

People are always asking us: “Maid Service Reston—what are the top tips you can share to make our lives easier?”

We’ve been cleaning people’s homes for a long time, so you better believe we know all the best cleaning hacks. From using natural products to cleaning in a certain way. Here are our favourite tips for a sparkling clean home…

  • Lemon juice or cider vinegar mixed with water in a spray bottle is a great cleaner for bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Toothbrushes make good grout cleaners. Just don’t put them in your mouth afterwards…
  • Baby wipes are great for cleaning leather sofas—though check the manufacturers’ recommendations first.
  • Hairdryers will get rid of water marks from wooden furniture. Afterwards, wipe the area with a little olive oil.
  • Blast the kitchen or washing sponge in the microwave for a minute at the end of every day to keep it clean and bacteria-free. We always do this at Maid Service Reston.
  • Cut a lemon in half and microwave it for a minute to help remove dirt and smells from your oven.
  • Clean from top to bottom whenever you are tidying up. It makes sense, right? Dust and dirt are going to fall from above so don’t give yourself twice the work.
  • Wet rubber gloves are perfect for removing pet hair from clothes.
  • Sprinkle your rugs and carpets with a small amount of baking soda. Leave it for fifteen minutes and then vacuum your floors. Voila! Fresh and clean smelling.
  • A little cleaning up every day is more manageable than a lot of cleaning up one a week.
  • Put the no-shoes rule in place. Our shoes bring in lots of dirt and bacteria so removing them at the front door or porch stops this. Besides, it’s good for your feet to go shoe-less as much as possible.
  • A small amount of shaving foam spread onto the mirror in your bathroom will stop it steaming up.
  • Always line your grill pan with aluminium. You won’t need to clean it as often.
  • Run your dishwasher on its highest temperature with a cup of vinegar sitting on the stop shelf.
  • Use crumpled-up sheets of newspapers to deodorize shoes and sneakers. Stuff them in and leave overnight.

Here at Budget Maids we provide cleaning services in Arlington, a maid service Reston or cleaning services in Columbia and surrounds, and more. Why not give us a call today and let us help you ensure that all of the cleaning hacks we have are applied to your home?

The Top 10 Rules of Spring Cleaning

house cleaning OaktonThe House Cleaning Oakton experts love spring cleaning! It’s a chance to make a real difference to homes. A tidy home is a welcoming one. There is also plenty of research to show that de-cluttering makes us feel better too. Mess drags you down.

If you’re planning your own spring clean, here are some rules to follow:

Assemble your supplies and equipment. You might have run out of furniture polish, or you could need a duster specifically for blinds. If you have everything to hand at the start, your enthusiasm won’t be dampened by having to go out and buy something.

Get the big jobs finished first. Clean the oven and fridge. These are jobs most people don’t like so once they are out of the way, the rest of the housework is a breeze.

Declutter next. That messy spare room that you’ve meant to sort for ages? Get it done now. De-cluttering is often easier if you start small. Allocate ten minutes at a time and don’t do anymore after that.

Clean those windows. You want the sun to stream in, after all. Vinegar solutions make great, natural cleansing agents for windows.

Enlist help. Why not make it a chance to catch up with neighbors? A spring clean, followed by lunch to say thanks?

Invest in new soft furnishings. Why not reward yourself with new bed linen, cushions or throws? It’s an effortless way to change the look of a room.

Clean the carpet. In the winter months, we spend longer inside, and we tramp all kinds of dirt into carpets and rugs. House cleaning Oakton at Budget-Maids offers professional carpet cleaning services.

Choose green cleaning products. You have plenty to choose from these days. They are good for the environment and good for your home.

Think of spring cleaning as exercise. If you put plenty of effort into it – stretching up to clean windows, mopping floors vigorously and going up and down stairs often as you tidy things away – you’ll get a great work-out. Who needs the gym?

Sort out repairs. Leaky faucets, creaky hinges, holes in the plaster – take this opportunity to fix them.

Here at Budget-Maids, we provide cleaning services in Arlington, house cleaning Oakton or maid services in Columbia and surrounds, and more. Why not give us a call today and let us help you to spring clean your home?
