Get Your Home Shiny with our Spring Cleaning Tips

With spring on its way it’s still traditional at this time of year to give your home a complete clean from top to bottom. Here at Budget Maids we will happily provide you with that service but in the meantime if you’re itching to do a little yourself here’s some cleaning tips to get started:

·         Perk up your painted walls

If they’re not too dirty it’s easy enough to get rid of fingerprints and dirty marks using just a sponge and water. Tougher stains though may require you to add a little dishwater liquid into the water (make sure the liquid is as mild as possible). Failing that, some soap on the sponge can often do the trick. If you have to resort to using a chemical-based cleaner always wipe the wall with water afterwards to dilute the chemicals.

·         Stop the stains and smells

To get rid of marks on sofas and other upholstery, wedge a garbage bag between the cushion and the fabric then try blotting the stain. Wash with cold water and repeat. A tablespoon in a little water can help remove odors.

·         Clean those counter tops

Always wipe up stains on counter tops such as granite as soon as they appear. It’s a good idea too to have them sealed if you believe the original seal isn’t as effective as it should be. A sprinkling of ammonia with some hydrogen peroxide in water can be very effective for getting rid of coffee or juice stains while soap and mildrew can be removed using a little ammonia in a lot of water.

·         Rejuvenate your rugs

A rug in everyday use should really be given a good clean every five years or so. Club soda can be very effective for removing stains such as red wine, soda and even pet stains. Just pour it onto the area affected and leave it there to do its work for a while. Salt added to the soda can help neutralize acid stains. Again, the trick here is to blot rather than wipe. If the stain has grease in it use a soap detergent with a lot of water. Milk is good for removing blood stains.

·         Get your stainless steel shiny

The best way to do this is to attend to them regularly by spraying the surfaces twice a week with a wax-based aerosol and wiping clean with a lint-free cloth. It may be tempting to use oil to get a shine but it’s counter-productive as substances can stick to the oil.

Clever Cleaning Tips for Your Kitchen

It’s great having your house cleaned by a professional company every week. It means all that scrubbing, thorough wiping and disinfecting is a thing of the past for you. Or is it?

NaturalMom

Unfortunately our homes don’t always stay nice and shiny until the next time the nice lady turns up to clean it. That’s because we’re busy living in them. And sometimes that means we have to do a little ‘in-between times’ cleaning. So here’s a quick guide to help when your kitchen (which tends to be the messiest room in our home) gets that little bit too yeuchy to cope with:

  • Clean as you cook
  • This is one we religiously adhere to ourselves. Often recipes provide the odd five or ten minutes breathing space while some of the ingredients are being cooked. Instead of nipping through and watching 10 minutes of TV it’s a better idea to clean that bowl that we’ve just mixed stuff in. And while you’re at it, throw in that knife, spoon and the measuring cups too. In other words, wash as you go. Doing this not only feels satisfying but also means you don’t have to face a huge pile of dishes before heading to bed.
  • Clear up clutter
  • That’s continual clutter such as plates, utensils and bowls that you never use but are lying around in drawers and cupboards anyway just taking up space and getting dusty and dirty. If you haven’t used them in some time pack them in a box and store them in a cupboard somewhere. Just don’t refill the space with more kitchen gear you won’t use! In fact, see all that stuff lying around on the worktops such as the liquidizer, smoothie maker and steamer? Put THAT in the newly cleared cupboards.
  • Gear up for the grill
  • One of the messiest of all cooking implements, this doesn’t have to be a nightmare to clean every time you cook. Not if you lightly wipe it with oil prior to putting any food down. That way the food won’t get too dry and stick to the bars of the grill tray – and you won’t have to spend your precious leisure time scrubbing away at it.

America’s Cleaning Industry Growing In Demand

Interestingly, a recent 2013 report from the website FranchiseHelp.com on the cleaning industry showed it is set to become one of the fastest growing sectors in the United States by the end of the current decade. In fact they actually predict a five per cent growth between 2008 and 2018.

This increase, says the report, is due to the rise in the number of elderly people living alone or in residential homes that will need additional help with cleaning chores. The report also takes into account laundering and clothing repair and this too is expected to increase with people living longer. In fact, in 2010 there were actually 824,394 workers employed in America’s cleaning industry.

‘Green’ Cleaning

Another trend is, of course, the increase in eco-friendly or ‘green’ products – thanks to new government legislation and just a general awareness all round by consumers (at Budget-Maids we always use environmentally-friendly products for our house cleaning in Columbia, Potomac, Vienna or Olney etc).

Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning

Another growing trend in cleaning is carpet and upholstery cleaning – and which we also offer here at Budget-Maids as a ‘dry’ clean service. By ‘dry’ clean we mean there’s no water used in the cleaning process. This in turn means no re-appearance of stains or water marks (such as those you would find in traditional carpet shampooing), as well as a faster service – so it’s ideal if you have a party or get-together coming up and suddenly realize your carpet or rugs (we also clean Persian and other Oriental versions) could do with a bit of a freshen-up.

And why stop there? Having your furniture steam cleaned or expertly polished at the same time will serve to enhance that ‘gleaming’ new look in your home. Incidentally, even if you have hardwood floors, you can still get them in tip-top shiny shape by having them carefully and expertly washed and buffed.

Our Strategy to Give You a Clean and Shiny Home

Here at Budget Maids we’re regarded as the leading house cleaning and maid service in Virginia and beyond.

That’s not just because we’ve been in the business for more years than we care to remember right now. But also because when we enter your home to do our job – whether that’s house cleaning in Arlington, Vienna, Oakton or elsewhere — we always go in with a fixed plan in mind so that we can make the most efficient use of our time. Well, it makes sense – both from our point of view and yours.

CleaningCloths

You don’t want us to be hanging around when you get home from work and we’re always conscious of the fact there’s another client looking to have her or his home fixed too. So what’s our plan?

House cleaning strategy

  • Tackle the kitchen and bathroom first. Why? Because these rooms are more often than not where you’ll find the majority of germs in the home.
  • The downstairs level is next. This is because is when people enter your home they’re hardly likely to go straight for your bedroom. They’ll hang around the sitting room and kitchen and more than likely enter through the hallway. They may also use the downstairs powder room.
  • Use sprays that smell nice and are eco-friendly. That means no harsh chemicals, there’s no excuse for using synthetic smelling sprays these days as there’s so many pleasant ones on the market.
  • Always have enough new cloths for every home. Not to have suitable clothes for particular surfaces just doesn’t make sense. You’ll never find us running out and using paper towels as a replacement. Paper can be easily pierced resulting in scratched surfaces.
  • Use plenty of elbow grease. Sometimes the only way certain surfaces such as floors and tiles can get super-clean and shiny is to rub hard and fast. It’s worth it to see the end result and anyway – it’s good exercise!
  • Enjoy our time cleaning your home. Our team gets satisfaction from a good result – just as you yourself will be delighted to come back to a gleaming home. We may do a bit of singing at the same time (hopefully in tune if you’re around at the time) – but that’s because we enjoy and take pride in our work.

Don’t believe we love our work? Then try us out and we’ll prove it. At Budget-Maids we undertake professional house cleaning in Reston, Rockville and other towns throughout the State. Contact us here for an instant quote.
